TwitchCon 2015: Twitch Keynote Roundup

By Sam Murray on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

TwitchCon, Twitch's first official convention to celebrate its website, streamers, and community, has come to a close and for the most part, it seems like TwitchCon was a rousing success. Things got started Friday with a keynote address from Co-Founder Emmett Shear.

Shear took to the stage to not only give an update on Twitch and its services, but announce new features that will be coming in the next year and beyond. First, this fall will see the release of a full featured Twitch App for Playstation. This new app will allow "access to all of the games and broadcasters you love" across the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

Twitch also revealed that October will see the release of the new Whispers 2.0 System. Whispers will no longer live in the global chat area, they will now reside in their own docked windows alongside a list of all the whisper conversations. Whisper conversation history will be saved forever so you can "start and stop your whisper conversations whenever you please". It sounds like a great update to an already stellar feature! The system seems to work the same way that Facebook integrates its messenger service on their website and its definitely intriguing to say the least!

Twitch is also allowing broadcasters to create new video playlists. These playlists can feature everything from favorite past broadcasts to favorite highlights which can turn their channel into a 24/7 viewing experience where fans can chat and watch your content whether your online or offline.

A new video "experience" was also announced during the keynote address which will feature customizable thumbnails for past broadcasts and highlights, a brand new HTML 5 video player, and the ability to upload your videos directly to Twitch.
