On October 20th, Dontnod Entertainment released their final episode of their episode-based adventure Life Is Strange, but it seems that the developers are not resting on the game's success. The studio have already announced their next game, and this time the American teenage girls are replaced with bloodthirsty vampires in the capital of England.
The recently announced Vampyr is an action RPG set to the aftermath of World War I, with the Spanish Flu rampaging through London's alleys. In an announcement by Game Director Philippe Moreau, he explains how they want to tell a truly gothic story about vampires, served as a stark contrast to the glittery vampires of movies and TV nowadays.
The game lets you take on the role of Jonathan Reid, a former doctor of war. He is a rational man, and as such he is having trouble coming to turns with his new condition and aims to understand and treat it as a medical condition. As you play through the game, you will however learn that things are much more organised, or deliberate, than that.
Dontnod promise bloody battles with both mythical creatures and regular humans, and you will need to make us of your vampiric powers and authentic ‘make-shift’ weapons to conquer your enemies. Every person you meet can be a potential target, if you wish, but each kill will have a consequence. You will need to gather information about your surroundings to make a decision on who to kill.
Vampires have to eat, after-all. But as the saying goes, ‘you are what you eat’ – at least, in Reid’s mind. He’s a very human vampire… at least, he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. Do not think that makes him ‘good’, though. You’ll see.
