Wildstar Developer Carbine Studios To Close

By AJ Hanson on 29/04/2024 21:52 UTC

The developer of MMO Wildstar, Carbine Studios announced that it will shut down. The core team that was left of 50 people will lose their jobs and Wildstar will be shutting down as a result.

“Today, we are closing Carbine Studios and will begin the process of winding WildStar down to ultimately shutter the game...WildStar players who have spent money within the game will be refunded purchases from July 1, 2018 until the payment system is shut off. We are also in the process of identifying the teams that will be doing the work to bring WildStar to a close. These decisions are very difficult to make and we are in the midst of shifting as many of our teammates as possible into other roles within the organization.”

Not much else is known at this time, including a shutdown date for Wildstar, but as soon as we get that information we'll provide it to you. Wildstar was launched in 2014 to tepid success, which ultimately went free to play after a paid subscription launch in an attempt to save the game.

We're sad to see Carbine Studios close, and hope that those affected are able to get back on their feet quickly. Wildstar was a fun MMO for a time, but seemed to release just a bit too late into the market.
