On Wednesday, YouTube thrust itself into the arena dominated by Amazon owned Twitch TV, with the official launch of YouTube Gaming, a service tailored for the rising popularity in video game streaming.

As announced at E3, YouTube Gaming is an online venue where video game fans can find various gaming related YouTube videos featuring gameplay, game commentary, live play, on-demand moments, and more. Since its initial testing phase after E3, YouTube Gaming has undergone some major behind the scenes tweaks to make the experience better for everyone using the service from game streamers to consumers alike.

As promised, after some excellent road-testing by thousands of dedicated gaming fans, YouTube Gaming is now available. Blending gaming videos and live streams, YouTube Gaming brings you closer  to the games, gamers, and culture that matter to you.

The YouTube Gaming app is now available on Android and iOS devices, while those on a PC, Mac, or Windows Mobile device can use the YouTube Gaming website.

With Twitch TV dominating the live streaming landscape, the logic behind YouTube entering the foray has been questioned by some. However, Ryan Wyatt, YouTube's head of gaming partnerships had this to quell the fears of fans; "Having a destination where you can get all the gaming content you care about is really important. That's why we created this." The passion is obviously there with the team members behind YouTube gaming. Only time will tell if this will skyrocket like its competition has, or of this is the next Google +.
